June 2014

Portland, OR - Barrett & Assoc. Engineering, a local high-tech Engineering firm, today announced that their Principal Engineer, Mr. Patrick H. Barrett, PE, has been awarded a U.S. Patent for his work on a method for controlling certain hydroponic watering systems.

U.S. Patent #8,275,301 B2:   Computer-Implemented Method for Controlling Ebb-Flow Watering Systems

The device described in the Patent automatically moves nutrients to and from plant buckets to promote robust growth.

Mr. Barrett notes that this work fits well with the recent easing of legal restrictions on the growth of certain crops.

Portland, OR - Barrett & Assoc. Engineering, a local high-tech Engineering firm, notes that their Principal Engineer, Mr. Patrick H. Barrett, PE, hosted a session entitled "What Every Engineer should Know About Software" at the annual Conference of the Professional Engineers of Oregon. ( PEO ).

Mr. Barrett's presentation was well-received.

Portland, OR - Barrett & Assoc. Engineering, a local high-tech consulting engineering firm, today announced that the firm's Principal Engineer, Mr. Patrick H. Barrett, PE, has been elected to the office of Chairman of the Oregon IEEE Consultants' Network (ORCNET).

The ORCNET, is a local group of IEEE Members who are Electro-Technical Experts (mostly electronic and software engineers) available for hire on a contract basis.

The IEEE, (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, pronounced "Eye-triple-E"), is a non-profit, technical professional association of more than 400,000 individual members in 150 countries.

By virtue of its members, the IEEE is a leading authority in technical areas ranging from computer engineering, biomedical technology, and telecommunications, to electric power, aerospace and consumer electronics.

Through its technical publishing, conferences, and consensus-based Standards activities,
the IEEE produces almost 30 percent of the world's published literature in the fields of electrical engineering, computers, and control technology.

The IEEE annually hosts more than 300 major conferences and maintains nearly 900 active Standards, with another 700 under development.

Mr. Barrett, a graduate of Portland State University (PSU) and a Licensed Engineer noted his gratification on election to this office and his determination to maintain the high standards set by his predecessor.
